The interstitial space as a metaphor for the nostalgic tuning between inside and outside. Architecture in which materiality and typology structure sensorial layering with the help of Hempcrete.
The design encompasses four separate entities, formally identical but with their own identity and sensory properties through specific materiality and orientation. This creates a dynamic whole over time. The careful placement of openings guides the occupants ambiguously through the complex, blurring the boundaries between windows and doors and symbolizing underlying cultural notions. The project emphasizes dynamic experiences of sight, touch, hearing, and smell, using materials such as hemp fibers for thermal properties and terracotta tiles for heat absorption. Venetian plaster is used to manipulate light and depth, contributing to the specific sensory experience. Double framed openings are used to organically regulate the internal climate depending on the actual outdoor climate. Overall, the design embraces unpredictability and potential disturbances, offering a harmonious interplay between architectural elements and the sensory experience of the space.
